The segment of the population that I selected to study is
those that live in or work in multi-level buildings. This being the case and
given the fact that these areas cost more money than one-story homes or
offices, the segment is more likely to operate in a higher-income group. And
having done a lot of my interviews with my neighbors, people on the ninth floor
of my apartment, as well as my roommates, I have a pretty good idea of the
person that is the final consumer of the product.
The avatar is an older college student 19-21 years old, not
living in a dorm, but a multi-level apartment. They have classes and work on
alternating days, so they are in an out of the apartment a lot. They walk a lot
of places because parking is such a nightmare in their college town, so getting
places taking a lot of planning and time. If they are ever in a rush, living so
high up in the apartment is a negative, because the elevators take so long to
get to them. They cannot take the stairs and be tired or sweaty after taking 9
flights every way. They are average students, average workers, they are
underdogs against the tyranny of inefficiency that rules their lives, everyone can
relate to them.
They are involved in sports and clubs around the school, so
they have to visit those a few times a week, that’s ten plus more trips up and
down the elevators. Being college students, they are fairly in the middle of
the political spectrum. They are someone that every college student sees
themselves as or wants to see themselves as, give or take the living situation.
What I have in common with the avatar that I created is the
exact living situation, as well as the class schedule. I do not have a full-time
job while in college, but I am involved in sports and clubs that I have to get
to by walking. I do not own a car but have friends that do. These similarities
are not a coincidence; I have reflected my own thoughts and feelings onto those
of the avatar.
The avatar I created using the link that Professor Pryor
provided for us is a simply average looking, regular hair, professionally
dressed and groomed, young adult with common attributes that can be related to
by a lot of students whether it is eyes, skin color, hair, gender, style, or clothing.
Hello Jacob, you did a great job describing your custom avatar. I liked that you used Professor Pryors link to make your own avatar! I like that I can relate to being the underdog against the tyranny of inefficiency that rules life. You did a great job isolating your segment and describing how you can solve their unmet need. Keep up the great work!
ReplyDeleteHello Jacob,
ReplyDeleteYou did a great job honing in on your prototypical customer. Fulltime college students involved with extra curriculars or working part time jobs tend to always be busy going from place to place as well as stressed about time constraints. They are always searching for ways to save time on mundane day-to-day tasks so your description fits perfectly. I enjoyed your avatar picture as well.
